make sure you kill of one of the 2 hostile pets if you lvl like this (only one gets xp then duh ) and lock the heroes to that pet (or they won't use echo..)
and if you do get a elder like this you can death lvl the normal way by asking for a lvl 15 agressive pet at that zaishen guy (wich do attack)

Washi is right. If you don't bring Flesh on a res mes, you're not very smart...

Actually you should have read it first :/
if you resurrect someone who has 1 hp max they die yet still give xp to enemies.
if you use flesh of my flesh they come back with 1 hp and need to die again, tough you can equip a vamp wep i suppose but if you want to wait till the pet hits you, you'll lose valuable time.

Am I the only one who spent time in there screenshotting like crazy without even handing any pet in ^^;
I just found the scenery devastatingly beautiful. Then I went to hand in my rainbow phoenix and jingle bear.

Has anyone else had odd experiences leveling/evolving pets lately? It seems that the common wisdom about this is no longer applicable.
For example, I have had several pets that reached final evolution at level 14 and pets that did not experience their first evolution until level 12 or 13. I'm getting aggressive/dire pets from builds and farms that should not produce any such thing, as the pet is taking massive damage and doing little damage (both in absolute terms and in relation to the damage I'm doing). Pets that I charm as level 12 playful are turning elder at level 14 rather than hearty, despite being played passively and dying frequently.
It seems that the information on the wikis and all the guides to pet evolution written over the last four years have gone out the window.
Perhaps it doesn't matter, really, since a "wrong" evolution can be used to unlock tier 7, after which you can pick the evolution you want easily. A wrong evolution is no longer a complete waste of time that forces you to repeat a lot of work from scratch. But, it would be nice to understand how the system works anyway.

The area is very nicely designed and fun to just do a quick run through.

I already had that one available, XD. I saved a different pet in each hero. But, since most of that pets where level 5, I got the unlock pack to save the Balthazar to unlock levels and the time leveling up.
I was worried about the Black Moa, but luckily they let us unlock more evolutions, so there will be finally evolved Black Moas around the place.
The hardest so far was the White Moa. I had to rezone more than 50 times until that flock appeared at last!

You must see it filled with animals. A couple of phoenixes appear together under the everblossoming cherry trees.

I've been leveling some, and I found that they go now 5..12..15..20 instead 5..11.15..20. But din't noticed final evolutions until level 15.
But it doesn't matter much. If you can't get the right evolution, you give the level 20 pet away pay 2000 Balthazar to unlock the tier 7 if the pet was elder, and ding, you get what you want.

I death-leveled a Moa Bird and had it turn into a Dire Strider when I tamed it. Not sure what that was about...

Ah come on, it was always like that. Moa birds are just called Striders.

I guess I will have to add to the Wiki that they change names during evolution, too.

Optimal Method to Death Level Pets, right here on this very page.
The animal will gain XP every time you die, even if it isn't attacking, if it is hostile. You can make the animal hostile by starting and then aborting Charm Animal.

How come I can't get the pet trainer to train my level 5 rainbow phoenix? I took it to him, and I can't seem to get an option for anybody in teh managerie grounds to train the pet. What am I doing wrong?

The NPCs in the Menagerie don't actually train pets. You need to level it to 20 yourself (either dire or hearty to unlock the top tier) and then show it to the tamer. After that, Wynn (Training Captain) will give you a choice of levels (12, 15, or 20) and evolutions for that animal whenever you want to charm a new one.
The alternative is to talk to Helena (Keeper) and pay either Balthazar faction or Zcoins + gold to unlock the animal and/or evolutions you want, then go talk to Wynn who will show you your choices.
